The hike to this point was long and hard: with 60 additional pounds of weight; including camera gear, my tent, and food to rest there overnight.  It was winter and I was the only one camping for miles. I heard a terrible rumbling of a cascading rock slide, the largest movement of land and rocks that I have ever been near, the likes of which I later found out created the entire canyon. As frightening as the journey was, was exactly the revelation of the tremendous power of the place, feeling so small in the mysteriously powerful narrative of nature.
